100-year-old Indian lawyer who has been practicing since 1947 still visits Virtual Hear – News18

Age is only a number! This practicing lawyer from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur proves this saying when he turned 100 on Friday and is still learning new things despite his centenarians. He attends his virtual hearings after learning the tricks of the virtual world when he was 100. The lawyer is Lekhraj Mehta from Jodhpur, who turned 100 on Friday. Mehta is a legendary name in the field of law and has taught many eminent figures including former CJIs, CMs and international court judges.

He has been a lawyer since 1947. However, during the pandemic, he learned the art of video-conferencing his court hearings. In fact, he’s also learned video calling and video conferencing since the lockdown last year. Age is never an obstacle for me to learn new things, says Mehta, who is an ordinary learner and keeps up to date on his case topics, meets people and catches up on the latest developments.

However, when the pandemic changed the way we work, Mehta, like other people, had to confine himself to his home. Being a quick learner, he made his grandson Ramil Mehta his “teacher” and learned the art of videoconferencing, video calling and videoconferencing, thus overcoming the challenges of the pandemic for his professional world.

He did not leave his practice to study his cases thoroughly and continued to stay in touch with clients through video calls. Mehta has taught important figures such as the former CJI RM Lodha, Justice Dalbeer Bhandari, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and ML Singhvi.

He was born in 1921, had heard of the Spanish flu from his family members and is now 100 years later seeing the changing world during the pandemic. However, he believes that thanks to the Internet and mobile communication, the world has not stopped this time.

Mehta has fought many interesting cases. He was the lawyer for Bollywood star Salman Khan, who was charged in the Black Buck poaching case. He was fighting the case to ensure Salman could get his visa and travel abroad for his shootings when the High Court overturned his conviction on the Black Buck poaching case.

Even when the CP Joshi of Congress lost the votes with one vote and took refuge in the court, Mehta did not allow him to win the votes against Kalyan Singh. Similarly, former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s victory was challenged twice in court, but Mehta made sure that his victory remained intact. Nathuram Mirdha lost the general election to Govardhan Soni and turned to the court. His plea was rejected, courtesy of Mehta’s shrewd approach.

At the age of 100 today, he said seniors should properly schedule their schedules from morning on, decide what to eat and what not, take plenty of walks, and practice yoga to stay healthy.
