SEATTLE – Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell recommend two firsts for Washington State’s two US attorney posts.

Nick Brown, former General Counsel to Governor Jay Inslee, would be the first black federal attorney in western Washington, and Vanessa Waldref, a Justice Department environmental attorney and former prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Spokane, would be the first woman to run the business there.

The senators forwarded the recommendations to the Biden administration and said in a press release Monday evening they hope for quick Senate appointments and confirmations.

“Washington State’s US attorneys will play a critical role in addressing challenges ranging from racial injustice to police reform and the proliferation of white supremacy to major climate and environmental issues and much more,” said Murray. “Both Nick and Vanessa served.” their country, state, and communities with honor and distinction, and each would bring the experience, insight, and leadership required to meet these challenges, promote justice, and reaffirm justice in these crucial roles. “
