Capitol Police officers are suing Donald Donald Trump for emotional and physical injuries

The two officers accuse Trump of deliberately sparking the January 6 riot in which they were both injured.

Two U.S. Capitol police officers have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump.

According to CNBC, officials are blaming the former president for “physical and emotional injuries” sustained outside the United States Capitol during the January 6 riot.

Their complaint states that Trump deliberately “ignited, encouraged, instigated, directed and supported and aided” rioters who broke into the Capitol and forced lawmakers to vacate the premises. The uprising resulted in significant property damage, multiple injuries and five deaths.

CNBC identified the plaintiffs as officers Sidney Hemby and James Blassingame. Both men served in the Capitol Police Department for more than a decade.

Together they claim that Trump’s rhetoric “has resulted in injuries to US Capitol and Metropolitan Police Department police officers,” including himself.

Blassingame, for example, “suffered head and back injuries.”

“A huge wave of insurgents pushed forward and hit Officer Blassingame against a stone pillar. He hit his spine and the back of his head and couldn’t move, ”said the suit.

The complaint also alleges that rioters shouted racist surnames while attacking the African American Blassingame.

Blassingame later said he had “lost the number” of how many rioters called him the N word.

Now, almost three months after the uprising, the attack continues to “haunt” him.

Hemby was also injured in his left hand; His left knee also became painful and swollen. He is currently receiving physical therapy three days a week to rehabilitate other neck and back injuries.

“Officer Hemby was attacked relentlessly,” the lawsuit said. “He was bleeding from a cut less than an inch from his eye. He had cuts and grazes on his face and hands, and his body was pressed against a large metal door to ward off attacks. “

Hemby and Blassingame are asking a court to award them $ 75,000 in damages. They have also sought punitive damages from Trump “to punish him for his willful and wanton and reckless behavior and to discourage others from engaging in similar behavior.”

Shortly before the White House was handed over to President Joe Biden, Trump was indicted – for the second time – in Congress. While Trump was accused of instigating the riot in the Capitol, his defense team told the Senate that the Commander-in-Chief’s arson should not be construed as a call to violence.

However, Trump’s speeches and statements are cited as evidence in the officials’ lawsuit.

Just before the riot broke out, President Trump ordered his followers to “fight like hell” and march to the Capitol.

“As he made these comments, Trump’s supporters on the ellipse began chanting ‘Fight like Hell’ and ‘Fight for Trump’. After he finished, they switched to “Storm the Capitol,” “Invade the Capitol Building,” and “Take the Capitol now,” “recalls the lawsuit.

“When Trump finished his speech near the White House, his supporters who were already in the Capitol became insurgents,” it said.
