A lawyer was found dead at his home in Laurel, Maryland on Wednesday after police responded to a report of a possible break-in. A homicide investigation is ongoing.
Brian R. Bregman was found on the 500 block off Main Street at his home above his law office. He was 43, Laurel told police.
“Brian was a very nice guy,” said the owner of a nearby salon. “… I am shocked. Shocked. Nice guy.”

Bregman was a member of the Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department, a reserve officer in the DC Police Department, and a forensic evidence technician.
When Laurel Police Chief Russ Hamill notified the coroner of Bregman’s death, he said the victim was one of their own.
The officers responded to a report of a possible break-in at Bregman’s home at around 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. They found Bregman’s body and began investigating. The police did not want to comment on how the murder was committed. You have no suspect or motive, Hamill said. Detectives are investigating “evidence” found on the spot, he said.
“As we speak, there’s a detective with technicians on the scene. At that point we will take all the evidence we can get, ”said Captain Brad DiPietro.
