Meet Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis. The newly elected prosecutor announced that her office is opening a criminal investigation into Donald Trump’s efforts to reverse the results of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election.
A major role in the investigation is played by the leaked call between Trump and Georgian Foreign Secretary Brad Raffensperger. You will recall that two former Biglaw attorneys, Cleta Mitchell and Alex Kaufman, were also on duty. Willis, who appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show last night, noted that Trump’s request for a very specific number of additional ballots could go a long way in establishing the male realm.
DA Willis: Detailed facts become important, e.g. B. asking for a specific number and then investigating again and understanding that that number is just one number more than the number you need. It lets you know that someone had a clear mind. They understood what they were doing. pic.twitter.com/vH46bBaAyD

But Willis has warned that despite the shame of this particular call, once she begins the investigation, she will be open:
“I have no idea what I’ll find. I think a good law enforcement officer, a good prosecutor, you step in openly, you get the facts for what they are, there will be some laws that we will look at.
“If these facts match the elements of these statutes, we will bring charges.”
Of course … she has a hypothesis about what she will find (hint: Moar!):
Willis: What I know about research is that they peel back an onion. And as you go through each shift, you learn different things. To be a responsible prosecutor, you need to consider all of these things in an investigation to be fair to everyone involved. “#Gapol pic.twitter.com/HBAJN3RNfV

You may be wondering exactly how this investigation started and you can thank a law professor. George Washington University’s law professor John Banzhaf III reportedly made the first complaint.
Willis has stressed that criminal charges are far from certain. But we do know that Donald Trump’s legal issues are getting a lot stickier.
