US attorney McGregor Scott resigns after serving as federal prosecutor for elements of California – ABC10.com KXTV

US attorney Scott was Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer for the Eastern District of California.

SACRAMENTO, California – U.S. attorney McGregor Scott is stepping down from his position as Attorney General for the Eastern District of California.

Scott has been in this position since December 29, 2017. He will step down for the second time after holding it from 2003 to 2009.

“Working as the United States attorney for the Eastern District of California has been the most fulfilling experience of my career,” Scott said in a press release.

The US District Attorney’s Office covers 34 counties from the Central Valley to the Sierras, with offices in Sacramento, Fresno, and Bakersfield.

Scott also served as a federal investigator on the EDD fraud task force. Scott said his team will be well prepared to resolve the issues with the EDD when he leaves later this month.

“It has been an honor over the past three years to work with the women and men in this office and our law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe,” Scott said in the press release.

Scott will step down as a US attorney on February 28. Current US First Assistant Attorney, Phillip A. Talbert, will assume the office of Scott on March 1.
